3D Breast CT is a compression-free diagnostic alternative to traditional mammography. It offers clear imaging for all breasts, including dense breasts and breasts with implants, and follow-up evaluation.

How Does This Differ From Current Imaging Options?
Traditional Mammogram: The breast is compressed between plates for the scan. 1 in 6 women report that this method is uncomfortable or stressful, and compression can be especially difficult to image dense breasts or implants. Follow-up imaging is often required.
DBT/3D Mammogram: This scan still requires breast compression, but arranges the images as “slices” to create the 3D visual. It continues to have limitations for dense breast tissue or patients with implants.
MRI: This scan requires lying still inside a narrow tube for ~30 minutes, often with contrast. Can feel loud, confined, or anxiety-provoking, and typically costs $500–$1,000+.
Ultrasound: Uses gel applied directly to the breast, can feel cold or messy, and is often used to evaluate specific areas rather than the whole breast. May require follow-up imaging for findings confirmation.

What Can I Expect?
Step 1: Before Your Scan
- Select your preferred location, date, and time, and complete our brief intake form
- Provide your prior breast imaging facility information so our radiologist can compare your studies
- You’ll receive an email confirmation, followed by instructions on how to obtain a signed order from your provider
- Schedule a short visit with your provider and share our order form with them
- Your provider may fax or securely email the completed order form to us
- Our Care Team may call or text to confirm any final details before your visit
Please note the following safety requirements for Breast CT.
We cannot proceed if any of the following apply:
- You are pregnant or suspect you may be
- You cannot lie comfortably on your stomach or have mobility limitations that prevent gentle positioning by our technologist
Step 2: The Day of Your Scan
- Arrive at your selected location and enter our private mobile care unit
- Our breast CT padded table supports your entire body for a comfortable experience
- Our technologist will guide you into position for a quick, gentle scan
- Each breast is imaged separately
- The scanner rotates around each breast for approximately 10 seconds
- Your entire visit typically takes less than 20 minutes
Step 3: After Your Scan
- Our radiologist will review your imaging within 72 hours
- Your results will be delivered to you and your physician within 14 days
- If additional evaluation is recommended, your physician may order follow-up imaging
- Your physician will determine which test is most appropriate for your situation

Why Koning Vera Breast CT?
Koning Vera produces high-contrast, true 3D images with exceptional spatial resolution. This improves how clinicians evaluate breast tissue, while giving patients a more comfortable experience—no compression required, faster scans, and fewer patient recalls. It also saves time and streamlines workflow.
What is the Koning Vera Breast CT?
It’s a dedicated breast CT system that creates isotropic 3D images of the breast. It can be used for diagnostic imaging and 3D-guided biopsies, with or without contrast dye. The system is built in the USA.
Is it safe? What about radiation exposure?
Yes. Radiation exposure is comparable to a standard 2D mammogram and fully adheres to Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) limits. For biopsies, Koning Vera uses about 50% less radiation than traditional stereotactic methods.
Is the system FDA approved?
Yes. The Koning Vera has received FDA Premarket Approval (PMA) for both breast CT and 3D guided biopsy—this is the highest level of FDA clearance for medical devices.
Will insurance cover this scan?
Gnosis for Her currently offers the service as self-pay, with FSA/HSA reimbursement eligible. However, we are working toward broader insurance coverage. As of January 2021, the American Medical Association assigned six dedicated CPT codes for Breast CT, now being accepted by many payers.
How is it different from a mammogram or DBT?
- Produces true 3D images, unlike DBT which creates 2D slices
- No compression is needed, making it vastly more comfortable
- Quick scan times—about 7 seconds per breast; a bilateral exam takes under 5 minutes
- Provides clearer imaging for dense breast tissue, implants, and overlapping structures
Where is this technology available?
Gnosis for Her is available in California through our mobile breast imaging unit. Patients can schedule appointments at the community locations where our mobile clinic is stationed each week.
We are planning to expand with additional mobile units and locations in the future, making this technology more widely accessible.
Can it be used for routine screening?
Not yet. Currently, Koning Vera is used for diagnostic imaging after a screening mammogram. However, a clinical trial is underway for screening use, with approval anticipated in 2026.
